The total cost of raising a baby chick for 12-16 weeks is only $8.00. (Prices have increased from $5 over the last year through inflation. The video says $5 per chick.) After she grows strong and gets her feathers, we will hand her off to a single-parent home, a widow, orphan, or family who's been unemployed long term. They will care for her until she starts laying eggs. As long as she has a safe place to sleep, she will forage for food during the daytime. She will eventually lay an egg per day, providing great protein, fats, and vitamins. She will lay 912 eggs in 2.5 years. That's 76 dozen eggs!

Our chicken laying house is finished and ready to receive these chicks. Here is a current photo of the project.
