Heirloom WELSH BUNCHING Onion -- 500 Seeds
Allium fistulosu

OTHER NAMES: Welsh Onion, Spring Onion, Scallion, Escallion, Ciboule (French), Zwiebel (German), negi, chibol, sybie, sybow, evergreen bunching onion, Japanese bunching onion, and stone leek.

PERENNIAL. "Welsh" is a corruption of the German "Walsch," meaning "foreign," and has no reference to Wales. Welsh is evergreen, non-bulbing, has larger leaves, sweet and mild flavor.  This variety is also known as “Once and Done”. Plant once and harvest scallions for years. Extremely hardy and pest resistant, will generally grow from cold regions right through to hot, tropical areas.

Welsh onion is frost hardy but will not withstand a severe freeze. Plants multiply by producing side shoots, which can be divided and reset. The perennial type produces no seed, so must be propagated vegetatively.

Onions have similar nutritional benefits as garlic and leeks. They provide a good source of fiber, folic acid, vitamins B6 and C, manganese, and iron. Studies have shown that onions, garlic and leeks can improve the immune system, lower bad cholesterol levels, and fight cancer.
