45 DAYS. Extremely popular for over 150 years. A favorite of gardeners for years. Ready earliest of all. Fast growing, large heads of light green frilly leaves are crisp and delicately flavored. Dependable. Heat tolerant. A good continuous cutting lettuce. Best for early spring and fall crops.
Great for container gardens! Most any container will do as long as there's good drainage. Lettuce roots are relatively shallow, but use at least a gallon pot that's at least 6 inches deep.
Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply of fresh lettuce. In dry weather, keep soil moist and during germination. If the soil temperature rises above 75F, the seeds become dormant..
SEED SOWING: Germination temperature 50ºF-70ºF. Direct sow after danger of all frost. Cover seeds lightly under 1/8" of fine well-drained soil. Press gently. Thin seedlings to 12"-18" apart. Germination is 7-14 days depending upon growing conditions.
