Heirloom SHOGOIN Turnip -- Bulk 5,000 SEEDS (1/2 ounce)
Brassica rapa var. rapifera
USDA Zones 3-11
70 days. 'Shogoin' produces tender, mild-tasting leaves. The leaves are ready for harvest about six weeks after the seeds sprout. The broad leaf greens can grow to almost 24" (61cm). 'Shogoin' also produces an all-white root that reaches its peak flavor and texture when harvested at 4 inches (10cm) in diameter. Delicious turnips are often used in stir fries and for pickling. If left in the ground, the root will develop a woody, grainy texture but the leaves will still be tasty. Shogoin is resistant to mosaic and downy mildew. USDA Zones 3-11.
SEED SOWING: In early spring to late summer when germination temperature is between 60F-70F, sow seeds 1/4" (6mm) deep, 1 inch (2 cm) apart in rows 12-18 inches (30 - 45 cm) apart. Thin seedlings to 4-6 inch (10 - 15 cm) apart. Sow seeds every 2 weeks for a continuous harvest throughout the year. Germination is 12 days depending upon growing conditions.
